BIWOTA 2024
British Inland Waterways on the Air 2024
Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th August
GB0SL – Clock Warehouse, Shardlow Lock No 2 – Trent and Mersey Canal
We had a very wet start to Saturday, but fortunately there was enough of a break to allow us to set up the Marquee.
We started to operate from around 10:30am with a few contacts on 2m and the main activity on 40m throughout the day. 7 confirmed BiWota stations in the log.
Stefan (M0OSL) & Connor (2E0EIY) camped over so that we didn’t need to pack all the equipment away in the wet, this allowed us to continue later into the evening and we were able to get a few more FT8 stations in the log. (Over 200 by the time the weekend was through)
We did try to work a VK station that evening on 20m but just not able to make the cut, although many other G & M calls were able to work him. Even the one we saw on FT8 got away. Oh well the big beam will have to be put up next year HI HI.
After getting our heads down in our tents and then defrosting ourselves in the early hours of Sunday morning, awaiting the rest of the members to arrive so that I could pop home to pick up the XYL and the event mascot “Gunnar the dog”. By the time I had returned a few more BiWota stations had been collected.
This was an unusual away weekend for us and the Nunsfield House ARG team. Normally we are not close enough to our home base for many of the group to be able make it out, this weekend we had a whopping 13 of the club members come out! It helped that we were right next to a really nice pub!
Operators for the weekend were:
Stefan M0OSL, Connor 2E0EIY, Mick G8EHX, Derry 2E0RRF, Peter G6KUI, Paul G1SGZ,
Ken G0JKC, Lyndsay M6YMB, Ian G8VXG, Phil G8HIP, Rosina G8XAC, Andy G8IYZ, David G0BIE
