Saturday Stefan (M0OSL) & Derry (2E0RRF) arrived to set up, with Paul (G1SGZ) arriving shortly afterwards. A little slack on the ground with man power and took a little longer to set up the area due to the rain had washed mud into the usual setup location. This was the first time we have encountered this and maybe some of this residue was from storm Babet from October last year when the Derwent breached further down the road at the Hurt Arms and almost breached at the museum.
Paul managed to obtain a brush from the site to allow us to make a use of the area. Whilst Paul was clearing down the area, Stef & Derry set to work on erecting the trapped dipole in the wasteland area as we had done on previous set ups.
Table was soon set up with the laptop set up on the Icom 7100 PSU etc and on air just before 11am after having a breakfast cob from the Filling Station Café from within the museum.
With the weather being quite poor it wasn’t long before the area had become muddy once again.
We persevered through only logging 63 contacts on the Saturday packed down at around 3:45pm.
Sunday the weather was a little better, Stefan, Lyndsay (M6YMB), Derry and the mascot “Gunnar the dog” came with a temporary floor to ease the mud situation which helped immensely.
It wasn’t long before Connor (2E0EIY) & Mick (G8EHX) arrived to ease the load from the previous day.
We had a visit from Phil (G8HIP) & Rosina (G8XAC) late morning for moral support.
We packed down 3:30pm after logging a total 103 contacts over the weekend.
Out thanks goes out to Great British Car Journey Museum for their hospitality and allow us to operate from this location.
