BIWOTA 2017

British Inland Waterways on the Air 2017

Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th August

Operating the callsign GB8RTS (River Trent Sawley) from Sawley Marina Long Eaton, although we had fantastic weather over the bank holiday weekend, conditions were not too great on the Saturday for operators the noise floor was quite high. One of the contacts that we did make suggested that the noise could be being generated by the charging circuits on the inverts from the solar panels on the boats moored in the marina.

This is possibly the case as we did experience the same issue the previous year with the event that DADARS held at Stenson Lock.

Sunday became a better day with much more activity and over the course of the weekend we had a total 126 contacts in the log, many of which was due to our star operator Connor who ended up with a great pile up on the Sunday afternoon.

Equipment Used: Kenwood TS-870 for the HF, Yaesu FT-736R for 2m - Antennas: 40m Wire Dipole, R5 Vertical & Triband Colinear.

Present Members over the weekend: Ken Frankcom (G3OCA), Peter Walker (G6KUI), Ken Clarke (G6JKC), Tony Parker (G3KAG), Richard Janezko (2E0ZDY), Stefan Latimer (2E0VKM), Connor Reeve (2E0EIY), Derry White (2E0RRF), Jonathon Keeling (2E0XCG), and Lyndsay Latimer (M6YMB)
