Mills on the Air 2019

11th & 12th May

Nunsfield House ARG participated in the Mill on the Air weekend from our usual location of Heage Windmill near to the town of Belper.

Although the event looked a little in doubt due to vehicle trouble, our members joined forces to helping transport the equipment. Special thanks to Kevin, one of our newest members who became the main transport for the weekend.

NHARG have operated from Heage Windmill since 2003 and it is the start of our event calendar and one we always look forward to.

The Saturday started out a little over cast with some light showers, but this did not matter much as we were under canvas.

This year we tried out Stefan’s (2E0VKM) trapped dipole for 3 bands 80m/40m/20m, this allowed us to keep the antenna erected and not having to drop down to change bands.

Also a homebrew 40m microvert that we used on FT8 contacts over the weekend.

Peter (G6KUI) also bought along his super antenna portable multiband antenna that was also used for different bands for FT8 contacts.

Saturday was a little slow going with poor propagation, but this dry spell lifted later in the day and into Sunday with us contacting many Mill stations, Pubs and Clubs on the Air and operators alike.

Sunday at Heage Windmill became busier with the classic motorcycles that came to show off the prize machines and add to the atmosphere. Even Mike (G6CZD) came along to show off his pride and joy.
